Batık tırnaklar özellikle kadınlarda ağrının yanısıra; estetik görünümü de bozduğu için istedikleri ayakkabıyı giyinmelerine engel olur. Bu durumda hastaların ilk başvurusu genelikle kuaförlerdir. Pedikürle batık tırnağın bası yapan kısmı kesilerek geçici olarak ağrı dindirilir. Ardından çeşitli merkezlerde uygulanan ılık kompresler, pamuk veya tel sistemi ile yatağın genişletilmeye çalışılması ile çözüm aranır. Ancak tırnağın yumuşak dokuya batmasındaki temel sebep olan tırnağı uzatan kök ordan uzaklaştırılmadıkça yapılan tüm geçici işlemler sonuç vermeyecektir.
Bu hastalara yapılan önemli bir yanlış ise tırnağın bütün olarak çekilmesidir. Bütün olarak çekilen tırnak ne yazıkki aynı şekilde geri çıkacaktır.
Kesin çözüm; son derece basit ve efektiftir. Sadece batık olan kısımın çıkarılması ile sorun çözümlenir. Batık olan kısım lokal anestezi ile uyuşturulduktan sonra tırnak yatağı ile birlikte ince bir şerit halinde çıkarılır. Sadece batığı oluşturan ve onu uzatan yatak yani kök kısım törpülenerek yeniden batık tırnak oluşması da önlenmiş olur.
Son derece efektif olan bu işlemle batık tırnak tedavi edilir. İşlem çok kısa sürede tamamlanır; işlem sonrasında herhangi bir istirahat dönemi gerekli değildir, aksine hasta batık olan kısım artık çıkarıldığı için rahatlamıştır ve hemen günlük yaşamına ve iş hayatına dönebilir. Enfeksiyon gelişim riskini önlemek için gerek görülürse kısa süreli sistemik antibiyotik veya topikal olarak uygulanabilecek kremlerle tedavi tamamlanmış, hasta sağlığına kavuşmuş
